How to Recondition Your Butcher Block Table

Jul 10th

Whether your butcher block table is completely new and old found hiding in a thrift store, you have to work to keep the table looking great. Tables should be kept clean and greased regularly. If the table has not been properly kept and is stained, scratched or brittle like, you can recondition your butcher block table and make it looks like new.

Instructions to recondition your butcher block table: scrape any residue or caked-on food from the table. Place the paper grit 80 for an orbital sander. Move the sander on the table to remove stains and scratches. Turn the sander to fine grit sandpaper. Sand the surface again. Continue changing the role and sanding the surface of the table until you have a smooth surface.

Combine one part of paraffin with four parts of mineral oil. The solution works in any cracks in the block. Clean the table with vinegar to remove all grease and dirt from the surface. Finally, to recondition your butcher block table, dip a soft cloth or shirt in mineral oil. Rub a layer of mineral oil on the butcher block table. Wipe excess oil.
